    About

‘Dillon Jo’ is the genre-defying project of Wellington-based artists Betty Smith and Georgie Levien. Dillon Jo built paths between the elements of dream pop, shoegaze, folk, alt rock, and indie pop to create their genre-defying sound they call “Dreamy Droppy Rock Pop”. Having made quite the stir in Te Whanganui-a-Tara recently, playing numerous shows around the motu.

Having heard of each other through the Reality music TV show "Take The Mic" 2022, in which they were both contestants, they decided to become Dillon Jo in early 2025. Releasing their first single ‘It was you (she’s been waiting for)’ in April.

Based in Wellington, their music is authentic and represents their journey together. Their debut single, it was you (she's been waiting for),  quickly gained attention in the Wellington music scene. Dillon Jo’s music explores the complexities of love, their relationship with one another as queer women, the process of change, and their experience in the LGBTQ community.

Recently, having recruited Kahu Sanson-Burnett (a multi-talented musician, producer, and previous member of Parallel Park) and Ruadh Munro (Drums and a previous member of Scarlett Crush), the band has pursued a heavier sound, releasing their second single ‘Shiver’ under independent Wellington label ‘Glasshead.’ The coming of age track, inspired by the likes of ‘Slow Pulp’, ‘They Are Gutting a Body of Water’ and ‘Freak Slug’, debuts the band’s dynamic range in their songwriting and potential for international success. To accompany the release of ‘Shiver’, the band also recently played a well-received headlining show at San Fran, Wellington.” Dillon Jo has transformed their live sets into an unbridled big-sound shoegaze experience.

With their catalogue steadily growing and new ideas taking shape, the band has been working on something a little more expansive on the horizon for 2026. Having already been making waves in the Wellington music scene, they believe this next chapter will be a big one, making plans for bigger and bolder live shows. Starting 2026 with a bang, Dillon Jo are touring Wellington, playing at local festivals such as Cupa Dupa, Newton Festival, and Performance Arcade. On February 13th their third single “Jo"”will be released , accompanied with a headline show at San Fran's Summer Camp on February 12th.
